Since early childhood, Dustin knew he wanted to be a Marine. When he moved to Flagler County with his family in 1995, he joined the U.S.A.F. JROTC program at Flagler Palm Coast High School. That is where he first learned leadership.

In 1999, Dustin joined the United States Marine Corps. Upon graduating top of class in weapons school, he was meritoriously promoted to Lance Corporal and received Meritorious Mast Award. This accomplishment created the drive in Dustin to strive to be the best leader in anything he pursued.

After leaving the USMC, with no demand for Anti-Tank T.O.W. Missile Gunners in the civilian world, he knew he would need to start on a new career path. Over the next few years, he served as foreman of a landscaping company, Crew Leader of Dish Network and Crew Leader for a utility locating company. With each new field he continued to grow his work ethic and leadership skills, and he excelled.

In December 2010, Dustin joined the City of Bunnell’s B.M.S Department. After an opportunity to tour the City’s Wastewater Treatment Plant, he knew what he wanted to do – become an Operator. He began as a Meter Reader Trainee and within 2 weeks, he was promoted to Maintenance Technician Trainee.

After successfully obtaining his collections certifications, Dustin pursued his Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) Operators License. In mid-2013, he became a Wastewater Treatment Operator after obtaining his Class C Operators license. He tirelessly increased his knowledge in all aspects of utility operation and maintenance. He obtained his WWTP Class B license and became the Lead WWTP Operator for the City of Bunnell in April of 2017.

City Manager, Alvin Jackson, took notice of Dustin’s knowledge, guidance, input and leadership skills and extended the offer of Interim Infrastructure Director. In mid-January 2019, Dustin applied for and was awarded the permanent position of Infrastructure Director. He had truly found his calling.

Over the past 11 years in the public utilities field, Dustin has attended multiple utilities training classes from maintenance, rules and regulations, management and process control at the UCF Treeo Center, FRWA and FWPCOA. He has worked on maintaining city and state right of ways, and all aspects of public infrastructure. He is currently pursuing further licensing in Wastewater and Water operations.

Dustin is of the opinion that once you believe you know everything, you know nothing, and he will not stop pursuing educational opportunities.
