Prepare for Tropical Storm Idalia – impacts expected for Flagler County

FLAGLER COUNTY MEDIA RELEASE

August 28, 2023 – Flagler County urges residents to prepare to face Tropical Storm Idalia impacts which are expected to affect the area late Tuesday night and throughout the day on Wednesday.

“Starting early on Wednesday, we expect to see Tropical Storm Force Winds, potentially over 50 mph and some minor coastal flooding primarily due to the lunar high tide,” said Emergency Management Director Jonathan Lord. “We urge all of our residents to complete preparations, on Monday, as if a Category 1 Hurricane is approaching our area, even though our impacts will likely be more Tropical Storm like.”

Lord recommends preparing for strong winds by securing loose, light outdoor items that could become flying projectiles and ensuring that your disaster supply kit is stocked and ready for the next 7-days. Additional details are available by going to www.FlaglerCounty.gov/emergency and clicking on the Disaster Preparedness Guide.

It is important to note that evacuations may be required Tuesday afternoon for those in mobile homes and RVs.
