Bunnell [September 14, 2023] -  On August 7, 2023, the Bunnell City Commission held a Workshop to discuss the City's Solid Waste services and fees.  The last Solid Waste fee change for residential services occurred in 2017 and the last change to commercial rates occurred in 2018.  During the Workshop, the Commission determined there needed to be changes to the Solid Waste Fees and provided direction to staff.  Many of the issues assisting with making the decision to adjust rates included the high level of services offered to customers, rising operational costs, condition and age of the vehicles, and anticipated growth of the the City.  Also, the City's contract with the dumping facility expires on September 30, 2023.  A new contract is being executed which increases the rates the City will be paying to dispose of all the debris the City collects.  The presentation given at this workshop is included in this announcement.

On August 28, 2023, new residential and commercial solid waste fees were adopted.  Those rates went into effect September 11, 2023.

There are no changes to actual service levels, just to rates.  Residential customers will continue to get 1 yard waste, 2 solid waste, 1 recycling and 1 bulk pick-up per week.  The rate is increasing from $20.00 per month to $32.00 per month with no change in the service level.  The biggest change for residential customers will be there are no longer any free bulk pick-ups for household goods.  Bulk pick-ups are charged by cubic yard [1 yard x 1 yard x 1 yard].  Attached is the service flyer and guidelines for residential City Solid Waste service.

As the City executes new contracts with facilities, the City will explore the ability to adjust the materials currently accepted in the residential recycling program; however, no changes are being made at this time.  The decision to change the City recycling program will be determined by the dumping facility's ability to accept and process materials for recycling.  When or if changes are made, the City will send out a revised flyer addressing the residential recycling program.
