Flagler County, FEMA work together to assist residents with several areas of support

FLAGLER COUNTY MEDIA RELEASE
October 14, 2022 – Flagler County has been diligently working with FEMA and the State of Florida on disaster recovery efforts to ensure residents are provided the support they need in the aftermath of Hurricane Ian.

One area of support is through D-SNAP – the Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program – registration, which for residents of Flagler County will be held October 17-23. This is a two-step process. The first step – online pre-registration – is the full week of October 17-23 through a link at myflfamilies.com/dsnap. The second step – a telephone interview – will be on October 20-23.

To qualify for D-SNAP benefits:
• Applicants must NOT be receiving regular SNAP benefits
• Applicants must have suffered a disaster-related loss such as: damage to their home or self-employment property; loss of food; reduction or loss of income; or, other disaster-related expenses
• Applicants must meet financial eligibility requirements

Flagler County and the City of Bunnell are hosting an Individual (household) Assistance registration event from 2 to 6 p.m. Friday (October 14) at the Versie Lee Mitchell Community Center, 405 E. Drain Street, Bunnell. Flagler County and the City of Palm Coast are hosting the same type of registration event from 2 to 6 p.m. Monday (October 17) at the Palm Coast Community Center, 305 Palm Coast Parkway NE, Palm Coast. FEMA personnel will be on site for both events.

“My staff is working with FEMA to have two mobile Disaster Recovery Centers here in Flagler County,” said Emergency Management Director Jonathan Lord. “As soon as we have dates and locations, we will send out that information. These centers will allow for in-person FEMA assistance and provide the opportunity for in-person follow up.”

In the meantime, a Disaster Recovery Center has opened in Daytona Beach at the Volusia County Health Department, 1845 Holsonback Drive. It will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. seven days a week.

It is not necessary to visit a center to apply for FEMA assistance. Residents can go online to www.disasterassistance.gov, use the FEMA mobile app, or call 800-621-3362. The line is open every day from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Eastern Time. Help is available in most languages. Those who use a relay service, such as video relay (VRS), captioned telephone, or other service, are asked to provide FEMA the number for that service.
