WE ARE HIRING: SOLID WASTE DRIVER


The City Commission desires candidates who are visionary, innovative and team oriented in their approach, and able to employ a style that engenders mutual trust and openness with community Partners and Stake holders. This position operates a variety of solid waste vehicles to collect residential and commercial refuse, bulk debris, recycling materials and other materials on designated routes. This position reports to the Solid Waste Manager.
Duties:
• Perform the day-to-day running of designated City Solid Waste routes, including commercial/ residential solid waste, commercial/residential recycling, yard waste, bulk pick-ups and any other municipal solid waste product; could include interaction with customers while performing these tasks
• Operate hydraulic hand controls to lift/load refuse, operate compactor and dispose of collected material at designated facilities
• Perform vehicle pre & post checks daily and complete all required forms including but not limited to checking fuel, fluid levels, hoses, signal operation, brakes, and lights; report issues to Fleet Department in a timely manner
• Assist with customer education on solid waste collections during any interactions in the field or via telephone
• Assist with other operational tasks as needed
• Other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Skills/Qualifications:
• Knowledge of the operation of a variety of sanitation equipment and vehicles including but not limited to garbage trucks in general, Curotto can systems, commercial and residential packers and crane or claw trucks
• Knowledge of all current health and safety regulations related to solid waste collection and disposal
• Ability to work a flex schedule, including working early or late hours, some holidays, and weekends or during states of emergency as needed
• Additional skills/qualifications as needed
• High School Diploma or GED; or higher post-secondary degree
• Prefer one (1) year related work experience with garbage trucks or other similar types of trucks
Professional Licenses:
• Valid Florida Driver’s License with CDL Class B or higher with air brake endorsement
• Must meet Driver Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) qualification standards as verified by a current MVR/driver abstract
• Must meet any qualifications as defined under DOT regulation 49 CFR 383.51 as applicable to municipal solid waste vehicles
Pay: $17.00 - $21.95 per hour (DOE) with medical, dental, and vision insurance for employee only paid for by employer
