IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT YOUR DRINKING WATER

City of Bunnell Chemical Monitoring Public Notice

What happened? Our water system did not meet the requirements of a drinking water rule. Although this is not an emergency, as our customers, you have a right to know what happened, what you should do, and what we are doing to correct this situation.

We routinely monitor for the presence of drinking water contaminants. Due to mechanical failure of a chlorine probe our system currently exceeds the standards, or maximum contaminant levels (MCL), for chlorine. The MCL is 4 mg/L, the result was 7.97 mg/L.

What should I do? Some people who drink water containing high levels chlorine could experience eye/nose irritation and stomach discomfort. Health effects language for individual contaminants can be obtained by visiting the EPA website at: https://www.epa.gov/ground-water-and-drinking-water/table-regulated-drin... by contacting us at the number below.

Any customers who are concerned about their exposure to these contaminants can choose alternative sources of water for ingestion.

What is being done? The chlorine probe has been fixed and we’re treating the water at 3.00 mg/L. We’re also flushing hydrants and our ground storage tank to get rid of the high chlorine water as soon as we can.
