On November 6, 2008, Arthur L. Jones became the first African American Chief of Police for the City of Bunnell Police Department, in Flagler County, Florida after joining the agency in February, 2008. His predecessor, Chief Amando Martinez, recommended Jones for the job because of his experience and the vision they share to bring law and order to the streets and protect the citizens of Bunnell. This historic appointment was well received by the citizens of Bunnell.

Born in 1952, and raised in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Chief Jones attended and graduated from Dillard High School in 1970. He attended Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, NC. After leaving school, he was hired by the City of Fort Lauderdale where he maintained continued employment for thirty-two years. Twenty-two of those years was served as a member of the Fort Lauderdale Police Department. During his career, he served as a patrolman, field training officer, a detective in robbery, violent crimes, homicide, and youth services divisions, and a school resource officer. Over the years, he acquired over fifteen hundred hours of criminal justice training. He also received thirty professional letters and certificates of commendation, thirty-four public letters and certificates of commendation, and a certificate of completion as a National School Resource Officer Practitioner. He retired from the Fort Lauderdale Police Department in August, 2004.

Chief Jones is the father of seven children. He and his wife, Frankie, reside in Palm Coast, Florida.
